Chapman's Eatery was a well-known resturaunt in German Village that was once recommended by the NYT for it's asian fusion tasting menu. The owner chose to close Chapman's at the end of August 2025, so I took a moment to visit while the resturaunt was still open. Compared to Agni, I found it overall a level lower. The food was good and the serving sizes were more managable, but I've had better asian food at other local resturaunts and overall found the combinations very ho-hum. The staff was kind, but much less engaged with me than the staff of Agni. The drinks were stiff but not memorable in terms of flavor. The element that struck me the most was honestly the decor, which while novel felt disconnected from the theme of the resturaunt.
