Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain in the world, from base below sea level to peak. We did not go all the way up - it is dangerous and preparation is required - but we did visit the visitor center and one of the smaller peaks to see the sunset. This mountain was gorgeous but you could definitely feel the elevation and the big shift in temperature. Even driving, the elevation was notable; our first time driving past on the base of the mountain the car brakes were used so much the car began to shake and groan every time they were pressed. Which was continuously.
