I went up to Indian Lake spontaneously to visit Granny and Grandma. It would be my last time visiting with Granny before her passing and in retrospect I wish I had been able to get some photos of her as well. While I was up there, I asked mom if she wanted to go on a field trip with me to the Ohio Caverns. She could not remember ever having been there, so we went together and did the full tour. I had a much better camera this time compared to last time shooting there, and the extra dynamic range did help. For me, shooting nature in caves is all about focusing on the contrasting shapes and textures. Like with all nature work, it's easy for what strikes you in person to sort of blur together into a busy complicated whole for photography, so trying to figure out a way to simplify the focus so it's only on what it should be on is essential for capturing things in a way that really conveys the majesty of the scene.
