These photos were all taken at a national park located at the Big Island in Hawaii around an active volcano. This national park is huge and has to contend with the reality that the volcano does erupt, which means various sections, roads and entrances have shifted, closed or are only accessible by foot at any given time. While we were there, the volcano was less pools of magma and more sulpheric gases. The wildlife was crazy with sections of the forest clearly affected by the gases or still recovering from previous eruptions. We walked destroyed roads and tunnels formed by the long ago passage of lava. If you're wondering about accessibility of this park, it was very accessible and there were lots of people. It has a resturaunt called the Volcano House that has been there for over 100 years and only been destroyed once or twice in that period. People do live within range of the eruptions (there's solidified lava everywhere on the island) but it's strangely a less popular living area than other Hawaiian islands.
